Lucknow: The International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm and active participation at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday morning. The programme was held from 8:00 a.m. onwards at the Auditorium of the Academic Block, bringing together students, healthcare professionals, and staff members in a collective effort to promote health and well-being through yoga.
Organised by the Department of Physiology, the event was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sunita Tiwari, Dr. Rajani Bala Jasrotia, Dr. Manish Kumar Verma, and other faculty members. The celebration aligned with this year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting the role of yoga in fostering physical vitality, mental resilience, and a healthy lifestyle across all age groups.
The yoga session witnessed enthusiastic participation from MBBS students, faculty members, resident doctors, and non-teaching staff. The programme was led by renowned Yogacharya Om Narayan Awasthi, assisted by yoga instructors Monika and Anand, following the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of AYUSH.
Participants performed Surya Namaskar along with a series of yoga postures, including Vakrasana, Chakrasana, and Bhujangasana. The session also featured pranayama practices such as Nadi Shodhana and Bhramari, which are widely recognized for their benefits in improving respiratory health, reducing stress, and enhancing mental focus.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasized the growing importance of yoga in modern life, noting its effectiveness in maintaining physical fitness, reducing stress, improving mental clarity, and promoting overall well-being. They encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a regular part of their daily routine to achieve a balanced and healthier lifestyle.
The event was graced by Director Prof. Dr. C.M. Singh, Dean Dr. Pradyumn Singh, and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Vikram Singh, whose presence added significance to the occasion. The programme concluded on a cheerful note with the distribution of refreshment boxes among all participants.
The successful observance of International Yoga Day at Dr. RMLIMS reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, holistic wellness, and the integration of healthy lifestyle practices within medical education and healthcare services.
